County ordered to pay $960K in Indian voting rights dispute

A federal judge has ordered Fremont County in Wyoming to pay $960,000 in attorney's fees as part of an Indian voting rights lawsuit.

The county fought members of Eastern Shoshone Tribe and the Northern Arapaho Tribe who said their voting rights were diluted. The federal courts sided with the tribal members but the county disputed fees that were owed to the attorneys who handled the case.

The Wyoming Local Government Liability Pool will foot most of the bill, the Associated Press reported.
