Cowlitz Tribe announces opposition to coal terminal project

The Cowlitz Tribe is joining opposition to a coal terminal in Washington.

The tribe says the proposed $643 million terminal will threaten air and water quality and will harm fish runs.

“We don’t see anything good for us or for our future generations with the proposed coal terminals,” Chairman Bill Iyall said in a statement, The Longview Daily News reported.

Several tribes in Washington and in the Pacific Northwest are opposing the terminals, which energy companies plan to use to ship coal to foreign companies.
