Judge won't delay theft case for treasurer of Mashantucket Tribe

A federal judge won't delay a theft case against Steven Thomas, the treasurer of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

Thomas is accused of stealing $700,000 from the tribe when he served as the natural resources director. He filed a motion to dismiss all of the charges and asked for a delay to explore a possible plea deal, according to news reports.

Thomas’ brother, Michael Thomas, was found guilty last month of stealing $100,000 from the tribe. Michael was a former chairman of the tribe.
