August Schellenberg, Native actor from Canada, passes at 77

August Schellenberg, a Mohawk actor from Canada who graced the stage and the screen for decades, died on August 15 after a long battle with cancer. He was 77.
Schellenberg was adept at Indian and non-Indian roles. He was well known for his work on the Saving Grace television series and in the successful Free Willy film series.
He recently portrayed Chief Sitting Bull in HBO's adaption of the seminal book, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. He also starred as Chief Pohawatan in The New World, a film about the relationship between Pocahontas and European explorers.
