Charles Murphy said he won't be seeking another term as chairman of the
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
Murphy, 64, is wrapping up his third, non-consecutive term. He spoke at the Tribal Consultation Conference hosted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in North Dakota and urged his fellow leaders to work with the federal and state governments.
“Open your doors to them,” Murphy said at the conference, The Bismarck Tribune reported.
The tribe was one of the first to sign an agreement with federal prosecutors to pursue violence against women cases in federal and tribal courts.
