Chippewa Cree Tribe returns ousted leader in special election

Voters of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana elected Ken Blatt St. Marks as chairman in a special election on Tuesday.

St. Marks won the election with 453 votes, according to the tribe's website. Ricky Morsette came in second with 315 votes.

St. Marks was ousted by the tribal council in March for alleged improprieties. He said he was targeted because has encouraged federal authorities to investigate corruption on the reservation.

So far, six people have been indicted this year for stealing from the tribe.
