Blackfeet Nation chair defends arrest over Facebook posting

Blackfeet Nation Chairman Willie Sharp Jr. defended the arrest of a tribal member over posting made on Facebook.

Bryon Scott Farmer, 33, spent four days in tribal jail for allegedly posting threats on Blackfeet Against Corruption. He was released on Tuesday.

"We were within our rights as a tribe to protect the interests of our members," Chairman Sharp told The Flathead Beacon. "When they cross the line and start inciting violence, that's when you have to take it seriously."

Farmer plans to challenge the tribal ordinance that was used against him. "I was held against my will for speaking against the tribe for all the corruption they put the people through," he told the Associated Press.
