Voters of the
Spirit Lake Nation of North Dakota ousted Roger Yankton as chairman at a general council meeting today.
The vote to remove Yankton was 284-145, The Grand Forks Herald reported.
Tribal members are now in the process of choosing a successor.
Critics accused Yankton of failing to respond to their concerns. They also say he refused to call a general council meeting.
Yankton also faced scrutiny due to child welfare woes on the reservation.
