The
Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe
Indians of Wisconsin has ordered a forensic audit of its finances in response to possible fraud.
A preliminary audit found instances in which tribal funds may have been transferred by copying the signatures of tribal leaders.
Chairman Gordon Thayer said the forensic audit will determine where the money went.
"We have serious concerns with regard to past money management practices of the tribe that must be addressed. It's a fact! A tribal wide audit was not performed in seven years,"
Thayer said on LCONews.com.
A copy of Thayer's message was also posted in the tribe's
June 2013 newsletter.
