HUD announces $563M in housing grants for Indian Country

The
Department of Housing and Urban Development
announced $563 million in grants for Indian Country.
The money from the
Indian Housing Block Grant Program
went to 353 tribes in 33 states. Recipients included four Maine tribes, who received nearly $2.8 million.
"Hardworking American families in tribal communities should be able to live in communities where they have a fair shot to reach their potential,”
Secretary Shaun Donovan said in a press release
. “The resources provided today will give these tribal communities the tools to maintain quality housing, prevent overcrowding, improve public safety and provide other basic building blocks of security and success.”
