Probably there are as many reactions to last week’s news about the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo as there are people familiar with the story. But one reaction must be nearly universal: Can this really be the end? Even the Herald betrayed doubt in its front page headline announcing the dismissal of a court suit brought to keep the nickname. “Final chapter for nickname,” the headline said. And the headline writer added a question mark. The opening paragraph of what must be the most definitive story so far about the long-running controversy also betrayed some doubt. Veteran reporter Chuck Haga began his report with these words, “In what may well be the final chapter…” Let’s hope that it is the final chapter – save two.Get the Story:
