The
Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Indians in Nevada is implementing a program to protect the
sage grouse, a bird that could be placed on the endangered species list.
The tribe's program is modeled after the one in Elko County. The goal is to keep predators, like the raven, away from sage grouse nests.
Sage grouse were once numerous on the
South Fork Band Colony, tribal member Gilbert Temoke said.
Only 14 have been spotted in the last two years.
“Before we would see a lot of them, but not anymore,” Temoke told The Elko Daily News.
