Osage Nation leader defends rape suspect at bond hearing

Scott BigHorse, the assistant chief of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, testified in support of a tribal employee who has been charged with rape, The Bigheart Times reports.

BigHorse called Christopher Beatty Harris, who has been charged with rape, assault and other felonies, a "big teddy bear," the paper reported. The comments were made at a bond hearing for Harris, who works at the tribe's fitness center.

BigHorse's brother, who is Harris' boss, also testified, the paper said. A woman who is related to the BigHorse family through marriage co-signed the $115,000 bond, the paper reported.

After posting bind, Beatty was released to house arrest. He has not been allowed to return to work, however.

Beatty is accused of sexually assaulting and kidnapping a woman last month.
