The leader of the Pheasant Rump Nakota Nation in Saskatchewan will be sentenced tomorrow for sexually assaulting a teen girl on the reserve.
Chief Terrance McArthur admitted to the charge on May 1, CBC News reported. He remains in office amid questions from the community.
"Out of respect for our community, because he's in an elected position, he should have that respect and step down," Julie Kakakaway, who runs the health clinic on the reserve, told CBC News.
The teen was assaulted in April 2012. Her family left the reserve due to intimidation and harassment, her mother said.
"Fleeing from there was the only option that I had to make sure the children and I were safe," her mother told CBC.
