Rod Cavanaugh, the superintendent at the Bureau of Indian Affairs agency in Fort Totten, North Dakota, retired on Tuesday, The Grand Forks Herald reports.

Cavanaugh told the paper that he accepted an early retirement package for "personal reasons." He has faced criticism for social service issues on the Spirit Lake Nation, where the agency is based.
