Passamaquoddy Tribe continues to exercising fishing rights

Members of the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine continue to exercise their fishing rights despite complaints from the state.

The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point and the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township issued 575 elver fishing licenses. The tribes also imposed a season fishing quota of 3,600 pounds, of which about 700 pounds have been caught so far.

The state, however, says tribal fishermen are limited to 100 licenses. The tribes are going to make their case to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission today, The Bangor Daily News reported.
