Hearing scheduled over mass disenrollments in Nooksack Tribe

Members of the Nooksack Tribe of Washington who are facing disenrollment will get a court hearing, The Bellingham Herald reports.

The tribe plans to remove 306 people, including two sitting council members, from the rolls. A resolution claims they can't trace their ancestry to a 1942 census or to someone who received an allotment.

Those facing disenrollment count Annie George, who died in 1949, as their ancestor. They say she was Nooksack and that they are being targeted due to their mixed Filipino-Indian heritage.

The tribal court hearing takes place May 1.
