The Mashpee Wampanoag
Tribe reported positive talks with a candidate for superintendent at a local school.
Tribal leaders met with Brian Hyde, a longtime teacher and school administrator in the town where the tribe is based, on Monday night. Chairman Cedric Cromwell said Hyde expressed support for the tribe, including the creation of a tribal charter school.
The school also will be working with the tribe on an agreement to address shared issues.
"The goal is to create a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will institutionalize measures to boost coordination and collaboration between the schools and the tribe,"
Cromwell said in an post on the tribe's blog.
