Idaho Legislature approves bill for tribal property tax exemption
Wednesday, March 13, 2013
The Idaho Legislature has passed House
Bill 140, which bars counties from taxing land owned by tribal governments.
The Coeur d'Alene Tribe lobbied for the bill.
The tribe paid a $200,000 tax bill last year even though other governments aren't subject to property taxes.
"This is a new day in tribal-state relations," Chairman Chief Allan told The Coeur d'Alene Press. "The legislature really stepped up to help us solve this ongoing issue."
The bill now goes to Gov. Butch Otter (R).
