Gila River Indian Community continues to debate highway plan

The Gila River Indian Community of Arizona continues to debate a highway that could run through the reservation.

One group of tribal members supports the highway and has collected enough signatures to put it to a vote. But a rival group claims the petition is riddled with fraud.

The tribal council voted to investigate the petition. If it's approved, an election could be held June 20.

The state is spending $2 billion to on the South Mountain Freeway. One controversial route would have impacted a sacred site on the reservation.
