The
Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas will receive $39,000 from a settlement with a herbicide company.
The tribe was part of a lawsuit against Syngenta. The company agreed to settle for $105 million but did not admit that atrazine was present in dangerous amounts, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.
“Water is the lifeblood of the Kickapoo people,” Chairman Steve Cadue said in a press release, the paper reported. “Thirty-nine thousand dollars is not a windfall to the tribe by any means, but we will make good use of these funds by investing it into our water treatment facility located on the reservation.”
