8th Circuit to hear 'Fighting Sioux' nickname suit next month
Tuesday, January 22, 2013
The
8th Circuit Court of Appeals
will hear oral arguments next month in a "Fighting Sioux" lawsuit.
Members of the
Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation
and the
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe
who support the now-retired nickname sued the
NCAA
for not including them in discussions. Their lawsuit was dismissed last year.
The
University of North Dakota
entered into a settlement with the NCAA to get rid of the controversial nickname and the associated "Indian head" logo.
The hearing takes place February 14, The Grand Forks Herald reported.
