Wisconsin tribes put a hold on night deer hunting amid lawsuit

The Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission has put a hold on night deer hunt in response to a ruling from a federal judge.

Judge Barbara Crabb issued a temporary restraining order in response to a lawsuit filed by the state. The state claims authority to regulate off-reservation hunting by Ojibwe citizens.

"We hit the pause button," GLIFC spokesperson Sue Erickson told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

A hearing on a permanent injunction is scheduled for December 12.
