Oneida Nation sues city after revoking permit for energy facility

The Oneida Nation is suing the city of Green Bay, Wisconsin, for revoking a permit that was issued to the tribe's renewable energy facility.

Oneida Seven Generations Corp, the tribe's economic development entity, wants to build a facility that converts waste into energy. The city issued a permit for the project last year but the council voted to revoke it last month due to environmental and health concerns that the tribe says are unfounded.

"Litigation is always a last resort," Chairman Ed Delgado said at a press conference, The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported. "It’s not good for Green Bay, and it’s not good for us ... the City Council didn’t do its homework."

The tribe is seeking $4 million for expenses related to the project, plus attorney's fees and other costs.
