The
Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon are working to battle high rates of crime on the reservation.
With a population of a little more than 5,000, the reservation suffers from the highest per capita crime rates in the state, The Oregonian reported.
Included are at least a dozen child sexual abuse cases every year, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
To address the problem, a task force of tribal and federal officials developed the Child Abuse Intervention Center, the second of its kind in Indian Country. The facility was dedicated on Monday.
"We are not a tribe without our children," Cecelia Collins, the tribe's juvenile prosecutor, told the Oregonian.
