The
Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa hired a new executive this year for its economic development corporation.
Bill Largent, the former director of the Office of Native American Affairs at the
Small Business Administration, said the tribe is looking to diversify its holdings.
Government contracts are one area of potential expansion.
"We are getting out into the community and showing them what other tribes have done," Largent told The Marshalltown Times-Republican. "This has been successful with other tribes."
Largent is a member of the
Keweenaw Bay Indian Community in Michigan.
