South Dakota State University is investigating an anti-Indian message that was left on the stall of a bathroom at a student dorm.
The message referred to Indian students with a racial epithet and told them to "go back to the rez."
It listed two dorm room numbers, at least one of which is occupied by Indian students.
Ernest Weston Jr., a student who is a member of the
Oglala Sioux Tribe, took a photo of the racist graffiti and shared it with his uncle. Wayne Weston posted it
Facebook but it was subsequently removed by the site.
"I guess the picture I posted that my nephew took was too offensive and was removed my fb administrators. My intention was to bring awareness of what we as native people face on a daily basis and expose the venomous hatred that exists, this is the difficulty we face living in a land we called home for thousands of years," Wayne Weston said in a post yesterday.
About 210 Native Americans attend classes at the Brookings campus, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported. The campus has more than 12,500 students.
