By a voice vote, the
House passed
H.R.1461, the Mescalero Apache Tribe Leasing Authorization Act, on Wednesday.
The bill allows the Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico to lease contract or transfer adjudicated water rights.
The tribe will be able to use revenues to invest in the reservation.
"The Mescalero Apache tribe is working hard to ensure that the future is bright for our people and surrounding communities," President Frederick Chino Sr., said in a
press release.
S.134, the
Senate version of the bill, awaits floor action.
