A room in the new federal courthouse in Montana is named in honor of the late
Elouise Cobell.
The Elouise Cobell Hall and Jury Assembly room is located in the $80 million courthouse in Billings. Judge Thomas F. Hogan, who handled the case, spoke at the dedication yesterday and called her “a remarkable woman," The BIllings Gazette reported.
Cobell was a member of the
Blackfeet Nation. She filed the lawsuit in June 1996 and reached a settlement with the Obama administration in December 2009.
Cobell died on October 16, 2011. She was 65.
