Grand Traverse Band submitted land-into-trust application
Friday, September 14, 2012
The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians has submitted a land-into-trust application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The tribe wants 170 acres in trust for various economic development projects, The Traverse City Ticker reports. That could include housing, energy or a winery, the paper said.
The county says it's working with the tribe on an agreement to address the loss of property tax revenue.
One large parcel generates about $20,000, the paper reported.
