Confederated Salish and Kootenai per cap goes out this week

Members of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana will receive a $10,000 per capita payment on Wednesday.

Checks will be going out to about 7,800 members. So the tribe's bank, Eagle Bank, is preparing for a big week.

“When people cash a check in excess of $10,000, we have to file certain transaction reports, bank president Martin Olsson told The Kalispell Daily Inter Lake. “There are only so many hours in a day, and there is a regulatory burden.”

Some local businesses are also gearing up for the windfall. One auto dealership is offering a discount to members, the paper reported.

The payments represent about half of the $150 million that the tribe received in a trust fund settlement with the Obama administration.
