Goshute Tribes blast BIA and BLM on proposed water pipeline

The Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation say the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Land Management failed to consult them about a water pipeline that stretches across their ancestral territory.

The BLM issued a final environmental impact statement for the Nevada Groundwater Development Project. The tribes say their views have been ignored throughout the process.

"What is most unconscionable here is that the BIA agreed that this was in the best interests of the Indian tribes in the area without ever talking to us or even just picking up the phone to talk," Vice Chairwoman Madeline Greymountain said in a press release, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

The tribes plan to submit their objections to the BLM. The comment period ends October 1.
