Nisqually Tribe looking to open gas station on newly acquired site

The Nisqually Tribe of Washington plans to open a gas station and convenience store on a newly acquired parcel of trust land.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has approved the tribe's land-into-trust application for the 0.71-acre site. The tribe is now working on a memorandum of agreement with the city of Lakewood to address law enforcement and taxation issues.

The tribe believes the gas station and store will generate $14.5 million a year in revenues.
