Developer resubmits bid for mine by Pechanga Band sacred site
Thursday, July 26, 2012
A developer resubmitted an application for a controversial quarry mine opposed by the
Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians
in California.
The tribe has been fighting the
Liberty Quarry
mine, which would be located less than 500 miles from the reservation border. The battle appeared to be over when board of supervisors in Riverside County voted 3-2 against a permit for the project.
Granite Construction is now saying it wants to build a smaller operation. The city council in Temecula is going to court in hopes of blocking the revised project.
