University on Yakama Reservation resumes classes after blaze

A private college on the Yakama Nation in Washington resumed classes on Tuesday after a fire destroyed the institution's first building.

A Roman Catholic nun founded Heritage University in 1982. The majority of the student body is Native American or Hispanic.

The fire destroyed Petrie Hall, which housed the cafeteria, bookstore, classrooms and computer rooms. It was still smoldering as of yesterday so the cause hasn't been determined. Damage has been estimated at $2.8 million.
