The
Shinnecock Nation is due to meet with leaders in the town of Southampton, New York, to discuss fishing and harvesting concerns.
In two recent incidents, tribal members have clashed with people who have tried to harvest shellfish near the reservation.
The tribe wants non-Indians to stay at least 1,000 feet away but the the town has suggested that the tribe lacks claims to the shoreline.
The tribe gained federal recognition in October 2010.
