Appeals court rejects challenge to highway project near Haskell

Federal and state officials adequately considered the environmental impacts of a highway near the Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Tuesday.

The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and other plaintiffs said the South Lawrence Trafficway would harm wetlands and sacred sites, including burial grounds, near Haskell. The 10th Circuit, however, rejected all of the challenges to the project.
