No charges in death of Native man who died in emergency room
Tuesday, July 10, 2012
Authorities in Manitoba won't file charges in connection with the death of Native man who waited 34 hours in a hospital emergency room.
Brian Sinclair, 45, was from the Sagkeeng First Nation. He died in September 2008 of a bladder infection that could have been prevented if he had been treated earlier, Manitoba's chief medical examiner previously determined.
The province opened a criminal inquiry into the death in 2010. But prosecutors issued a legal opinion that said no one will be charged.
An inquest into Sinclair's death is pending. His family has filed a lawsuit against the Manitoba government.
