"Just weeks after opening its renovated The Point Casino, the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe made another splash on the north end of the county by announcing it will purchase Heronswood Gardens. We think it's a positive development for property that's been up for grabs for years, and hopefully the glory days of local ownership may return to the 15 acres near Kingston.
There's an intrinsic value as one of our community's landscape gems. In a story earlier this spring about the auction that led to this sale, Pacific Northwest gardening expert Ann Lovejoy gave this advice to potential owners: "Know that it's going to be a labor of love for a longtime." Given the timeless relationship with the land in which the S'Klallam take a great deal of pride, such a view seems perfectly compatible for the new owners. The tribe's involvement in the nearby Kitsap Forest and Bay Project is an effort to preserve the landscape for future generations — and Heronswood can fall under the same philosophy."
