The
Blackfeet Nation of Montana will distribute about half of a $19 million trust fund settlement to its members.
Each of the tribe's approximately 17,000 members will receive a per capita payment of about $550. Checks should be ready sometime next week.
"Handing out over $9 million to tribal members is a very big deal. This is a good day," council member Willie Sharp told The Great Falls Tribune.
The tribe is still deciding what to do with the remainder of the settlement.
