Cherokee Nation council confirms new justice for highest court

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma has a new justice for its highest court.

The Cherokee Nation Council voted 11-6 on Monday to confirm John C. Garrett to the court. He will serve until 2018.

Two council members who voted against Garrett asked questions about his prior work for the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, The Tahlequah Daily Press reported. They insinuated that he might not be impartial in any disputes involving the UKB.
