Law firm for Cobell case also worked on tribal trust settlements

A law firm that worked on the $3.4 billion Cobell trust fund settlement also represented three tribes that reached settlements with the Obama administration.

Kilpatrick Townsend represented the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community of Arizona and the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine. Their settlements totaled almost $40 million, The Easton Star Democrat reported.

The Cobell settlement recently survived a group of challenges. Payments could go out soon barring further appeals.

"It was one of those cases where the merits are so strong," David Smith of Kilpatrick Townsend told the paper. "It's gratifying to see a very favorable resolution."
