Colville Tribes pushed to distribute more from $193M settlement
Monday, June 4, 2012
A member of the Confederated Tribes of the
Colville Reservation in Washington wants more of a $193 million trust settlement to go to individual Indians.
Joanne Sanchez is circulating a petition to present to the tribal council. It calls on 50 percent of the settlement to be distributed on a per capita basis, up from the proposed 20 percent.
“They say they’re going to start this and that, but the council goes on these extravagant trips. They travel all over,” Sanchez told The Wenatchee World.
The $193 million settlement is one of the largest tribal settlements that was reached by the Obama administration.
