Payments from $3.4B Cobell trust settlement could go out soon

Barring further appeals, payments from the $3.4 billion Cobell trust fund settlement could go out soon.

The settlement puts $1.412 billion in the hands of Indian beneficiaries. Most will receive at least $1,800 but many will will receive a lot more.

The settlement also created a $1.9 billion land consolidation fund. The Interior Department can pay willing beneficiaries for their factionated interests and the land will be returned to tribal governments.

The D.C Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed all challenges to the settlement in a May 22 decision.
