Manitoba Native flood evacuees told to reapply for benefits

First Nations flood evacuees in Manitoba must reapply for government benefits in an attempt to root out fraud, CBC News reports.

A reported 2,400 Native evacuees have been receiving aid since they were forced to leave their reserves more than a year ago. But there have been reports of some fraud, including people who have received money despite not having lived on a reserve at the time of the floods.

The Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Department is now asking claimants whether they lived on a reserve, CBC reported.
