Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes press Obama to resolve land fight

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma want President Barack Obama to resolve a long-running dispute over Fort Reno.

The tribe was forced off the land in the late 1800s. The federal government promised to return Fort Reno when it was no longer needed by the military but that hasn't happened amid claims and counterclaims aired by the tribe and politicians in Oklahoma.

"We ask that President Obama finally recognize what so many generations of our ancestors have been fighting for: our right to our tribal lands," Gov. Janice Boswell said in a press release. "He should do it not for politics, and not for money, but because it is the right thing to do. If you want hope and change, Mr. President, you can bring it to Oklahoma with a stroke of your pen."

Oklahoma's Congressional delegation has historically opposed any attempts to return the land to the tribe.
