Little Traverse Bay Bands consider same-sex marriage law
The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Michigan will consider a proposal to recognize same-sex marriage.
Tribal law currently defines marriage as a union of a "man" and a "woman." It could be changed to recognize a "union of two persons," Up North Live reported.
“In my mind, we're all equal in our creator's eye," former chairman Ken Herrington was quoted as saying.
The Coquille Tribe of Oregon and the Suquamish Tribe also recognize same-sex marriage.
The Navajo Nation and the
Cherokee Nation, the two
largest tribes, do not recognize same sex-marriage.
