Remarks by Commerce Secretary John Bryson at NCAI meet

John Bryson, the Secretary of the Department of Commerce, spoke at National Congress of American Indians on Tuesday.

Bryson was confirmed by the Senate in October 2011. He said one of his first actions after taking office was to appoint Dee Alexander, a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, as his senior adviser for Native American Affairs.

"Dee led the development of the Census Bureau’s American Indian and Alaska Native Policy," Bryson said at NCAI's 2012 executive council winter session. "She has also been actively engaged in developing the new Tribal Consultation and Coordination Policy of the U.S. Commerce Department."
