NCAI hosts tribal leaders for winter session in Washington, DC

The National Congress of American Indians is hosting its 2012 executive council winter session in Washington, D.C., this week.

The meeting begins tomorrow and runs through Thursday at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel. Tribal leaders will hear from members of Congress and Obama administration officials about budget, health, education and other issues

Highlights on Tuesday include Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson and Kimberly Teehee of the White House. Rep. Dale Kildee (D-Michigan), who is retiring from Congress, and Rep. Frank Pallone (D-New Jersey) are also due to address attendees.

On Wednesday, tribal leaders will hear from Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California), the House minority leader, will also make an appearance.
