The city of Moses Lake, Washington, is opposing a land-into-trust application filed by the
Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.
The tribe recently purchased about seven acres for more than $1 million, The Columbia Basin Herald reported. Plans call for a truck stop at the site, just off a major interstate.
The
Bureau of Indian Affairs asked the city for comments on the application.
Officials are worried about the loss of property taxes and jurisdiction if the land is taken into trust.
